How to merge PDF files on Mac

01

Drag PDFs from Finder

Select several files in Finder and drop them on this page (or click “Choose PDF files”).

02

Arrange

Drag the cards into order or click Sort A–Z.

03

Merge

Click Merge, then download — the file lands in your Downloads folder.

The built-in way: Preview

You can also combine PDFs with macOS Preview:

  1. Open the first PDF in Preview and choose View → Thumbnails.
  2. Drag the other PDFs from Finder into the thumbnail sidebar, where you want them to go.
  3. Choose File → Export as PDF to save the combined document.

It works, but dropping in the right spot can be fiddly and it’s easy to accidentally change the original file. Finder can also do it: select files, right-click → Quick Actions → Create PDF. Use this page when you want to see the order clearly and keep your originals untouched.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free way to combine PDFs on Mac?

Yes — Preview and Finder’s Create PDF quick action are free, and so is this page. All three keep files on your Mac.

Will merging change my original files?

No. We create a new PDF; the originals are not modified.

How do I merge only some pages?

Merge first, then remove the pages you don’t need with Delete PDF Pages — or use Extract PDF Pages before merging.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your files are opened and processed by code running in this browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server — you can confirm it in your browser’s Network panel, or by turning off Wi-Fi after the page loads.

Is it really free?

Yes. No daily limits, no sign-up and no watermark. Because the work happens on your device, it costs us nothing to run — the site is supported by unobtrusive ads.
