Sign a PDF on Mac
Draw your signature with the trackpad or mouse — or type it — then click to place it and download. Works in Safari, Chrome and Firefox.
How to sign a PDF on Mac
Open your PDF
Click “Choose a PDF file” or drag the PDF from Finder onto the page.
Create your signature
Draw it on the trackpad, type your name in a handwriting font, or upload a photo of your signature.
Place and download
Click where it goes, resize it, add the date if needed, then download the signed PDF.
The built-in way: Preview
macOS Preview can sign PDFs too:
- Open the PDF in Preview and click the Markup button (pen icon).
- Click Sign, then create a signature with the trackpad, the camera or your iPhone.
- Choose the signature, drag it into place, and save.
Preview is excellent if your signature is already set up there. This page is handy when you are on a work Mac where Preview signatures aren’t set up, when you want a typed or uploaded signature, or when you want the same steps on Windows and your phone.

Frequently asked questions
Why doesn’t Preview show my signature?
Preview stores signatures per Mac user. On a new or work Mac you have to create it again — or use this page, which needs no setup.
Can I sign with my iPhone and use it on my Mac?
Preview supports that via Continuity. On this page, simply draw with the trackpad or upload a photo of your signature.
Is the signed PDF editable afterwards?
The signature is added as an image on the page. Anyone can see it was added, but it can’t be moved without editing tools.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Your files are opened and processed by code running in this browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server — you can confirm it in your browser’s Network panel, or by turning off Wi-Fi after the page loads.
Is it really free?
Yes. No daily limits, no sign-up and no watermark. Because the work happens on your device, it costs us nothing to run — the site is supported by unobtrusive ads.
